geno records first release comes to you from belgium based dan d. dan comes from a traditional of both classical and jazz traditions. dan also developed a love of latin dance in his youth. once moving to berlin in 2001, dan was further influenced by the house sounds of the original panorama bar. dan himself has continued on to dj some of berlins best parties/venues including beatstreet, watergate, arena, maria, and the new panorama bar. club der visionäre has also been very important to dans musical growth. dan has had the opportunity to cut his teeth playing 10 hour marathon sets during his regular appearances since 2004. furthermore, he appeared in clubs like rote sonne (munich) and decadance (gent, belgium). friends like tobi neumann and dinky got him into production in 2003. dans first vinyl release on district of corruption lead to praise from some of the best djs in the business. the african market is quite an evolved sophomoric release for dan. the title track, african market, is a pulsating but stripped down organic percussive journey. afro-cuban rhythms lovingly exchange energy with warm analog synths and crisp techno electronic beats. the flip side, el baile, is a slow burning house jam. el baile features eerily reverberated studio recorded vuvuzela, crisply saturated jazz keys, and the same pumping afro-cuban rhythms that sets dans sound apart from others.

being one part of the dj team kassette boys, ferri borbás aka superlover is widely known as m_ferri. he was raised in berlin and after the wall came down he got musically influenced enormously by the then arising techno culture of the mid 1990ies. his early productions have always mirrored the influences of the rough, industrial and dark sounding techno sound which was brought to berlin by artist like jeff mills, laurent garnier or joey beltram. simple, radical sounding and functional: tracks like his >tanzgenerator< or >open the watergate< had shaped these asthetics into a trademark sound. his latest superlover project is slightly shifting his musical coordinates : instead of a reduced and purely funtional >m_ferri sound< his new project presents a rather emotional and energetic mix of warm sounding rhodes pianos and string synthesizers. the three tracks of the e.p. combine those sounds earworm-like to catchy melody riffs and being the metamorphosis of a new disco influenced, poppy superlover sound

the members of my my met and became friends through common interests in music, but it wasnt until they ended up as neighbours in berlins mitte, that a lifestyle of committed partying, cake baking and long studio sessions lead to their debut release on playhouse >klatta< in early 2005. it was the result of previously downtempo producer lee jones (hefner) working and partying with local berlin djs nick höppner and carsten kleeman, who are residents respectively at panorama bar and watergate. following up their recent fantastic 12inch on circus company butterflies & zebras is beautifully tripped-out expansive ambient house, summer after-hours here we come! recorded live with nick and lee layering fx over the organic percussion as the mix develops. an acid infused bassline is slowly opened out as layers of lush strings and shimmering pads are teased into the arrangement. on moneybowl the boys show the more jacking side of my my. taught and lean with a groove that keeps on evolving, while weird and wonderful bleeps and clicks bounce around the mix. for the remix, john dahlbäck twists the pads from the original and adds his own synth stabs. then pulls out a bassline and arrangement that jumps straight onto the dancefloor

it takes time for a series of seperate ideas to evolve into a fully concepteptualized album if it wants to have a place in history for ali and basti schwarz, better known as tiefschwarz. since 1998 the duo, as both djs and producers, have perfected the art of dominating the moments only experienced on a dance floor, deeply immersed in sound. their music is unique as it is creative.

ruede hagelstein and watergate go hand in hand. not only is ruede one of the longest running residents at the club, but hes also the man behind some of the labels most acclaimed music and the curator responsible for lucky number 13 in the illustrious watergate mix series. with this, it seemed obvious to put ruede up to his next task: an album.

it seems that there is an overabundance of artists today who have reached a level of success from their work, but very few of them come close to the level of output and range as butch. equal parts producer extraordinaire, dj, gentleman, and comedian, butch has everything deserving of a star in todays dance music arena. which is why, we here at watergate are extremely pleased to present him as next in line for our watergate mix series
